Description

When the computer name is changed and Loftware is licensed using a software license key, the key will fail after the system is rebooted. The license is stored in a registry key with the same name as the simple computer name, so Loftware will not be looking in the correct location for the key after the change.

How to Recover a Loftware License after Changing the Computer Name

  1. Open regedit.exe from the Start menu search or run dialog.

    WARNING! The Windows Registry is used for low level operating system configuration and should only be edited by advanced users. Editing the registry can cause irrevocable damage to your operating system. Contact your system administrator before proceeding.

  2. Open the following registry key for your type of system:
    1. 64 bit system: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Loftware, Inc.\llmwdn32.ini\<old_computer_name>
    2. 32 bit system: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Loftware, Inc.\llmwdn32.ini\<old_computer_name>
       
  3. The key information should resemble the following:
  4. Enter the NSKG value into a hex calculator to get the decimal value. This is your serial number. Copy this down for use later.
      
  5. Double-click on the newval key and copy the value.
  6. Exit out of regedit without making any changes.
  7. Open Gatekeeper. The default location is listed below:
    1. 64 bit system default: C:\Program Files (x86)\Loftware Labeling\gatekeeper.exe
    2. 32 bit system default: C:\Program Files\Loftware Labeling\gatekeeper.exe
  8. Enter the serial number from step 4.
  9. Paste the string copied in step 5 into the Password dialog.
  10. Click OK.

Once the above steps are complete the message "Password updated successfully!" will be returned. The software should now open and run without issue.
