Description

Starting the LPS (or WatchDog-NT) manually through the Service Control Manager works fine, but automatic startup does not work.

Solution

This problem occurs when the LPS (or WatchDog-NT) is starting faster than one of its dependent services. To fix the issue, try one of the following solutions, according to the version of the LPS / WatchDog-NT you are using.
To find out the LPS Version, select Start > Programs > Loftware Labeling > Print Server > LPS Configuration > Information Tab.
For WatchDog-NT, select Start > Programs > WatchDog-NT > WatchDog-NT Configurator > Information Tabtab andThe version number is the "Service File Version" (not "Service Product Version").

For versions with WatchDog-NT earlier than 3.6.2.40:

  1. From the Services Control Manager, configure WatchDog-NT for manual startup, then exits the Control Manager.
  2. From Windows NT explorer, browse to the "winnt\profiles\all users\start menu\programs\startup" directory.
  3. Right-click within the directory window and select "New"/"Shortcut".
  4. In the shortcut's command line enter the following string: "Net Start WatchdogNT". This shortcut will delay WatchDog's startup, allowing it to start successfully.

Note: The WatchdogNT service will not start until someone logs onto the Operating System.

For versions of the LPS, or WatchDog 3.6.2.40 or later, use the above solution or:

  4. In the shortcut's command line enter the following string: "Net Start LPS (or WatchdogNT)". This shortcut delays WatchDog's startup, allowing it to start successfully.

Note: The LPS/WatchdogNT service does not start until someone logs onto the Operating System.
