Description

When using a drop file to print a label, some field values get truncated. In the example below, Field 1 is "Dendrochronology", but the field is truncated when printed.

*FORMAT,Label.lwl
*JOBNAME,SampleJob002
*QUANTITY,1
*PRINTERNUMBER,7
Field1,Dendrochronology
*PRINTLABEL

When the same label is printed via the On Demand Print 32 program, the same value (Dendrochronology) is not truncated

Explanation

The value being sent is larger than the Max # Chars value for the field, even though the "Force Max # Chars" setting is set to "Do Not Force Max # Chars".

The "Force Max # Chars" setting and Preference only applies to LLM programs. The Max # Chars value on a field is always enforced during printing via LPS, which includes drop files, On Demand Print Client, .NET, DSI, and any of the Connector options.

Solution

When printing via LPS, make certain that the Max # Chars setting for your fields is large enough to accept any value being sent for that field.

*FORMAT,Label.lwl

*JOBNAME,SampleJob002
*QUANTITY,1
*PRINTERNUMBER,7
Field1,Dendrochronology
*PRINTLABEL
